Nelson Tower

Built in 1806 to commemorate Admiral Lord Nelson and his victory at Trafalgar. The Tower gives a superb view of Forres, Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth.

Sueno's Stone

An ancient pictish standing stone - Sueno's Stone stands 23 feet high. It was most likely erected just before the start of this millennium, possibly by Kenneth Mac Alpin - first king of the Scots after he defeated the kings of the seven northern Pictish kingdoms. Sadly, it has had to be encased in an armoured glass cover to prevent erosion and damage.

The Tolbooth

Work on the present day Tolbooth began in 1838 but there has been a Tolbooth on this site since the twelfth century.

The principal purpose of the Tolbooth throughout its history has been as a prison, courtroom, council chamber, collection office, treasury and archive storage.

It is now used as a rent collection office for The Moray Council with the Court Room being used to display items from The Falconer Museum and to host Community Council meetings.

The Mercat Cross

The Mercat Cross stands in the Centre of the High Street in front of the Tolbooth Building.

It is in the Gothic style of architecture and stands forty feet high.

The Cross is a miniature version of the Sir Walter Scott's Monument in Edinburgh.

The Falconer Museum

Founded in 1871, the museum displays objects relating to Forres including musical instruments and memorabilia belonging to the late Roy Williamson of The Corries.

St Laurence Church

An imposing and beautiful gothic church built in 1906.

In 1390 a church on this site was burned to the ground by the Wolf of Badenoch on one of his raids.

The Thomson Monument

On the site of Forres Castle stands an obelisk commemorating James Thomson, who served as a surgeon in the Crimea and saved many lives.

Although born in Cromarty the townsfolk, at that time, did not wish to have the monument placed there so it was erected in Forres and the reflected sunlight from the top stones can be seen in Cromarty across the Moray Firth.
Made of granite, the monument stands some 50 feet tall.

The Witches Stone

This stone, thought to date from from Pictish times and to have been used as an altar to the Sun God, marks the resting place of one of three barrels in which three witches were rolled down Cluny Hill.

Logie Steading

Logie Steading, originally built as a model farm in the 1920's, has now been converted to present quality to visitors in the tranquil Findhorn valley near the well known walks at Randolph's Leap.
Tearoom, Art Gallery, Bookshop, Walled Garden, clay pottery, furniture workshop, picture framing/textiles, Dolls Houses and Miniatures.

Dallas Dhu Distillery

This former distillery has been developed to allow visitors to see in more detail how whisky is produced.
Dallas Dhu was the last distillery to be built in the nineteenth century.
Visitors can explore the old Victorian distillery and then enjoy a dram in the audio-visual theatre whilst watching the story of Scotch Whisky

Randolph's Leap

A popular beauty spot on the River Findhorn 7 miles south of Forres by the A940 towards Grantown then the B9007 towards Carrbridge.

The river at Randolph's Leap passes through an opening of rocks, roughly eight feet in width, tearing its way amid gigantic cliffs dashing over great boulders and swirling foaming pools. Above are fearsome cliffs and tree roots struggling for a grip on the sloping edges.

Brodie Castle

Three miles west of Forres on the A96 towards Inverness, the Castle has been home to the Brodie family since 1160.

It has a notable collection of furniture and paintings and is now under the care of the National Trust for Scotland.

The gardens are known for their displays of daffodils, and there are pleasant walks and an adventure playground.
